Lagan Building Solutions (LBS)

LBS was founded in 2001 by Peter Lagan, who identified a lack of quality natural slate materials in the Irish market at that time. The market was dominated by Spanish and other imported slate, and there were a number of high profile roof failures, which was giving the sector a bad reputation. LBS focused initially on supplying only quality natural slate from the Welsh quarries but later expanded into dealing with some of the better quality quarries in Spain and further afield. At all times, LBS have focused on the top end of the market, and in 15 years of business have not had to replace a single roof - a testament to the company's philosophy of offering only the best!

As the company's market share increased, an opportunity arose in late 2007 to acquire Welsh Slate - a group of 4 slate quarries in north Wales which included the Penrhyn quarry, Cwt-y-Bugail quarry, the Oakley quarry in Ffestiniog and Pen yr Orsedd.
